Sensors — the exterior-product argument

Sun sensors drop shading automatically on hot elevations; wind sensors retract awnings and exterior screens before the south-easter or a Cape storm damages them. On Constantia’s exposed valley positions, this is a safety-critical spec, not an add-on.

When motorisation is essentially required

Spans too wide or heavy for chains, blinds above stair voids and double volumes, concealed ceiling-recess systems, exterior venetians, awnings and zip screens, and multi-blind walls of glass — one button for six blinds instead of six chains.

What motorisation costs

Motorisation has no single price, because what you are really buying is a product with a motor in it. Across the range fitted here, motorised shading spans about R2,500 to R7,500 per square metre installed: a motorised roller blind at R2,500 to R3,800, a motorised aluminium venetian at R2,500 to R3,600, a concealed ceiling-recess system at R3,200 to R5,000, and a motorised folding-arm awning at R5,500 to R7,500 per square metre of projection.

The floor applies whatever drives the blind, and a battery motor retrofitted into a finished room is not the same undertaking as a wired one planned into a build. Which of those your house wants, and what it comes to window by window, is decided at the free measure and written up before an order exists.
