Twelve ways to shape the light in a Constantia home.
From a single guest-room roller to a whole-house motorised system planned in at the drawing stage — every piece below is made to measure and fitted by appointment.
Roller Blinds
Blockout, sunscreen or double day/night fabric on a clean tube — sized to Constantia’s wide vineyard-facing panes.
ExploreDay/Night Blinds
Sheer and solid bands in one loop, tuned hour by hour as the valley light moves across the room.
ExploreVenetian Blinds
Aluminium for wet rooms and stone-clad exteriors, timber for Constantia’s Cape Dutch character homes.
ExploreVertical & Panel Blinds
Wide panel glides for the sliding doors that open a Constantia living room onto the vines.
ExploreConcealed & Recessed Blinds
Fabric drops from a slim ceiling slot — the clean-glass look architect-designed Constantia homes ask for.
ExploreCellular / Honeycomb Blinds
Trapped air cells buffer a wet Cape winter and a hot valley afternoon alike.
ExploreSkylight & Shaped Blinds
Tensioned systems for gable glass and skylights on Constantia’s double-volume estate architecture.
ExploreMotorised Blinds & Automation
Remote, app, schedule or wind sensor — the sensible spec for high glazing and exposed valley elevations.
ExploreExternal Venetians
Heat stopped at the glass, not inside the room — the premium answer for hard west-facing facades.
ExploreRoller Shutters
External shading that closes over exposed estate-boundary glass — sun, glare and blackout, storm season covered too.
Shading, not security. Our roller shutters are made for sun, heat and glare control on the outside of the glass. They are not security-rated shutters — that is a different product, which we can quote on request.
ExploreFolding-Arm Awnings
Retractable shade over the patio and braai area, wind-sensored against the south-easter.
ExploreZip Screens
Zipped side channels seal a patio against wind, sun and insects without a permanent structure.
ExploreDressed for how Constantia actually lives
Vineyard-view dining rooms, patios built for a long Cape summer, and heritage openings that were never quite standard size — this is what made-to-measure is for.
Built for the valley’s own weather
Constantia sits against the mountain, not the city — South Africa’s oldest wine-growing valley, its oak avenues and vineyard rows framed by the Constantiaberg on one side and the southern suburbs on the other. That position gives it a climate and a building stock the rest of Cape Town doesn’t quite share, and it shapes every quote we write here.
Cape Dutch homesteads with small, deep-set sash windows sit alongside architect-designed additions of floor-to-ceiling glass looking out over the vines — often on the same property. Getting both right means measuring properly on-site, not guessing from a floor plan.
South-Easter
The valley funnels the Cape south-easter hard in summer — exterior awnings and screens are specified with wind sensors as standard, not an upsell.
Wetter Winters
Sitting under the mountain, Constantia sees a wetter winter than the City Bowl — we lean on moisture-tolerant aluminium venetians and sealed-finish timbers in south-facing, less-ventilated rooms.
Two Building Eras
Original Cape Dutch openings and new glass-walled extensions call for different fits — we measure both to the millimetre rather than assuming a standard size.
Estate Guidelines
Wine-estate and security-estate developments often carry architectural guidelines on exterior colours and fascias — we confirm this against your scheme before quoting external products.
The Constantia Valley Light & Shade Field Guide
We wrote a proper, window-by-window guide to shading a Constantia home — how the valley’s high summer sun, the mountain that takes the west early, the region’s wettest winters and the south-easter change what belongs on each elevation. Honest product recommendations with the trade-offs both ways, and a two-minute ballpark tool if you’d like a budget range before we visit.

Before you enquire
Do you fit blinds to Constantia’s older Cape Dutch openings as well as new glass additions?
Yes — it’s most of what we measure here. Deep-set sash openings usually suit an inside-mount blind if there’s enough recess depth; shallow or non-standard openings often do better with an outside mount. Modern floor-to-ceiling glass on the same property gets measured and specified separately. We check all of this on-site, not from a phone call.
What’s included in the free measure?
An expert consultant visits with fabric and finish samples, measures every window you want quoted, and advises on fabric, openness factor and motorisation for that room’s light and privacy needs. It’s free, with no obligation to proceed.
Can blinds be made child-safe?
Yes. Chain and cord tensioners anchoring the loop taut to the wall are standard on our installs, wand-tilt and cordless options are available for nurseries and kids’ rooms, and motorisation removes cords and chains entirely.
Do your motorised and exterior products cope with the south-easter?
Exterior products — awnings, zip screens, roller shutters and external venetians — are specified with wind sensors or zip-guided channels as standard, so they retract or hold tight automatically before a gust does damage.
Will exterior products need estate or body-corporate approval?
Often, yes. Many Constantia wine-estate and security-estate developments carry architectural guidelines governing exterior colours and fascias. We’ll confirm this against your scheme before quoting anything visible from outside.
How long does manufacturing and installation take?
Everything is made to order, so timing depends on the product and how much is on the order — your written quote will confirm the lead time for your specific job rather than a generic estimate.
